What Manchester United need in the transfer window

Attack/Forward

Pace, pace, more pace and GOALS. On paper Manchester United have a formidable attack but last season’s goal returns showed the reason why they spent in the region of £6m (in addition to his wages during the season) to secure Radamel Falcao on loan from Monaco. Falcao turned out to be a disappointment scoring only 4 goals from 29 appearances. Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie did not fare much better with the former scoring 12 goals from 33 appearances and the latter scoring 10 goals from 27 appearances. Neither Rooney nor van Persie are known for their pace either. Swifter and more decisive movement would help Manchester United’s attack for the upcoming season.

Midfield

Centre Midfielder(Tactician, playmaker or defensive)

It has been clear to fans for years now that Manchester United lacks the creativity or tenacity in midfield to compete with the world’s elite football clubs. What is so surprising is that despite having this knowledge for such an extended time frame(and seeing Manchester United lose the midfield battle time and time again), there has been a reluctance to reinforce that area of need.

Defence

Centre-Back
Right-Back

During the 2014/15 season, the brilliance of David de Gea helped masked the defensive frailties of Manchester United. The team really lacked a strong and authoritative aerial figure commanding the back line. Chris Smalling was a revelation under van Gaal and might be on an upward trajectory to living up to his potential. He needs an established defender to anchor Manchester United’s defense.

Manchester United also need a proven right-back. Rafael da Silva has a been a disappointment so far during his Manchester United career and Antonio Valencia is merely a make-shift defender (although he did an admirable job playing out of position).

Goalkeeper

David de Gea’s imminent move to Real Madrid will force Manchester United to invest in a goalkeeper. Victor Valdés is a capable replacement, but his best years are surely behind him.
